Freelancer: Bidding and Global Jobs Guide

Freelancer.com is a global marketplace where clients post projects and freelancers bid. It covers a wide range of categories and supports both projects and contests. This guide covers what Freelancer offers and how it compares.

Bidding and variety

On Freelancer, you post a project and receive bids from freelancers. You can also run contests (e.g. design) and choose a winner. The platform supports many categories: programming, design, writing, marketing, and more. Fees apply to freelancers (and sometimes clients); competition can be high, so expect many bids on popular projects. Quality varies; check profiles, reviews, and samples before awarding.

Freelancer is one of the older large marketplaces. It's a solid alternative to Upwork if you prefer its interface or fee structure. For simple fixed-price gigs, Fiverr may be easier.

When to use Freelancer

Use Freelancer when you want a bidding-based marketplace with broad category coverage. For our full freelance marketplace guide, see Freelance Marketplaces.
